What happens to our skin as we age?
Starting around age 25, our skin's natural regenerative process begins to slow down. The properties that keep it firm and supple begin to go away, along with the skin's ability to hold on to moisture—a double whammy on the road to looking older.
As the years go by, the skin becomes ever more delicate and sensitive, providing a less effective barrier against harmful free-radicals; making it dry, tight, and even red.
Hormonal changes later in life contribute to these negative changes; loss of collagen, elastin and subcutaneous fat lead to a dryer and looser appearance. Add in the reduction of blood vessels, and your poor skin gradually loses its youthful color and glow.
Of course, the sun and other weather conditions don't help matters—they also factor in; creating dryness, wrinkles and changes in pigmentation.
Put all that together and quite simply, you're dealing with parched skin, expression lines and wrinkles, reduced elasticity, sun marks, pigmentation and vascular changes. Yikes! Sounds dire, doesn't it? Keep reading, because there's good news...
What is IPL Skin Rejuvenation?
During IPL skin rejuvenation, small pulses of light are applied to the skin—it's then transformed into heat. This heat stimulates the creation of new elastin and collagen coils, restoring the elastic networks under the skin. The effect is increased elasticity and luminosity, as well as a light filling out of the skin. The end result is a younger, more brilliant skin that is noticeable from the first treatment!
What areas can be treated with IPL?
The face, neck, chest and hands—all the critical areas.
What should I expect?
Over the course of a complete treatment, your skin will feel firmer and smoother, and its tone will even out. Watch your blemishes disappear, age spots and sun damage go away and fine lines fade into nothing more than a bad memory. Your skin's texture and overall complexion will improve dramatically--and there is no down time or recovery period.
Is the treatment painful?
Tolerance levels certainly vary, but in most cases clients say they feel no pain—just a slight heat sensation that was minimal and tolerable.
Before and After Care
Before you come in for your IPL treatment, you'll want to avoid sun exposure—including sunbeds—for a minimum of two weeks. You'll also want to stay away from chemical peels and other cosmetic treatments such as botox or fillers.
